Biography

While I photograph landscapes, nature or small details of everyday life because they awake memories or inspire me with new ideas, I also hope that the resulting print will have the same effect on other people. Whether my print of a butterfly on a lilac bush reminds you of spring at your grandmother's or inspires you to plant lilacs to draw the spring butterflies, the print has stirred an emotion. This is the result I hope to achieve when I capture a moment. I enjoy traveling to new locations then revisiting to photograph them again and again. This allows me to see these locations in different seasons and weather and at different times of day. A lake that can inspire tranquility at sunrise can provoke a sense of excitement when afternoon thunder storms arrive. After inspiration from a co-worker I ventured into photography in 2003. I initially started photographing pets and animals. While portrait photography was a fun adventure my schedule did not allow for the time required and the necessity of appointments. In 2005 I gravitated toward fine art photography. It allowed me to work around my schedule and travel rather than stay in a studio. After sitting behind a desk all day it's nice to hike or ride rather than stand inside behind a camera all evening. My color prints are shot digitally. For black and white and infrared prints I typically work with 35mm and medium format film. I enjoy working in the darkroom and the "digital" darkroom. I was born in VA and have always lived here. My husband Lynn is a wonderful and understanding man that will often tote a lot of camera equipment when we travel. We have three adorable fuzzy children.
